Volunteering

Our New Volunteering page is under construction Please contact our volunteering co-ordinator Dallas McDade if you are interested in joining our team

Cavendish Cancer Care has a dedicated and supportive network of volunteers, whose help is found in all aspects of our work here at the Centre, behind the scenes. They really are integral to our organisation and their help is invaluable. They help to keep our costs to minimal level, so that we can channel more of our funds directly toward the Centre’s goal of caring for our clients, their main carer and children.

Please register your interest in volunteering by speaking to Dallas McDade Volunteer Co-ordinator or emailing d.mcdade@cavcare.org.uk. You will be invited into the Centre for a chat where you can have a look around at what happens where and we can discuss which volunteer tasks have openings. Or click here for our contact page

The Volunteer Teams

Fundraising

Our Fundraising Office is always busy, there are always tasks to be filled:

Mail shots- posting out information about our upcoming events to interested parties.

Newsletter-our quarterly newsletter has to be posted to our database of 4,000 so we need all the help we can get with envelope stuffing.

Contacting Companies-not all people or businesses can offer help financially but some can donate prizes for our raffles and auctions.

Events-helping our Fundraising Managers with extra help at events such as staffing registration desks or selling raffle tickets.

Collection Box Team

Collection boxes are an important source of both revenue and profile for the Centre. It is good to see them in as many places as possible around Sheffield, as it gets our name, phone number and logo well known. A whole team of volunteers, supervised by the Finance Office work together to place, collect and count boxes and then thank the businesses with our personalised certificates. We are always in need of box collectors, so if you can help in this area please contact Dallas (details below).

Speakers Team

Our Speakers Team spread the “Cavendish Word” throughout the wider community. They represent us at meetings of potential supporters, community groups, social clubs and companies, often bringing back generous donations. As an example of this one member of the Speakers Team spoke to the members of Thurcroft Cancer Fund and, as a direct result of this, we were lucky enough to receive £5000.00 on two separate occassions.

Recycling Box Team

Print cartridges boxes are sent out to businesses across Sheffield by an external company (Reclaim IT) on our behalf. They have our logo and address on and the number of Reclaim IT. When the box is full the business contact Reclaim IT and they collect the full box and leave an empty one. The then send us the revenue for the cartridges which have been donated. We currently don’t have anyone volunteering in this area. It entials phoning businesses across Sheffield and asking them to have a recycling box for us, so if you can help in this area please contact Dallas (details below).

D.I.Y. Team

This is actually just our dear friend Keith. A keen DIY enthusiast and general craftsman. Our Centre is housed in a beautiful listed Edwardian Villa, which takes a lot of looking after. Keith has single handedly re-decorated a number of areas around the Centre (both inside and out) and has repaired a number of areas after break-ins. His skills ensure we stay effective and safe without having to pay expensive tradesmans bills.

Reception Team

This is our only really "visible" volunteer team. They are a group of people who work alongside our receptionists to make our clients feel welcome. They welcome people at the door, make our legendary tea and biscuits, check the therapy rooms are properly stocked, sell items from our merchandise stock in reception, take messages and answer telephones. The warm welcoming atmosphere is an area a lot of people who visit the Centre mention.

Admin Team

There are a number of admin tasks around the Centre which volunteers help out with. Typing and posting thank you letters and certificates, datawork, filing, posting out our leaflets to GP surgeries and hospital wards and collating helpline and support group telephone numbers and websites for client use.

Time and Skills

Many people have unique or special skills and just by sharing these skills with us they can provide help and support to raise money. This can just be ad hoc help at an event or organising a one off event.

Volunteer Meetings

We have quarterly informal meetings to discuss our volunteer activities and which teams are needing extra support. These happen here at the Centre and we alternate between afternoon and evening times. The meetings will sometimes involve a speaker and will always have tea and biscuits!
