Charlie Weston - Shiatsu, Reflexology and Massage
Charlie has provided care through Cavendish Cancer Care for the last since 2003. He came to the centre to be invoved with integrated healthcare and be part of cancer care and support. Charlie also works under our umbrella at the Cancer Information and Support centre at Weston Park Hospital. Charlie also provided his services at Rotherham Centre for Cancer Care and also works in programmes to help in drug rehabilitation. Like his colleague Jane King, Charlie also like growing things.
Dr Gouri Bardhan - Homeopathy
Gouri worked at Doncaster Royal Infirmary until 2001 as a Consultant Haematologist. She started an NHS homeopathy clinic at Mexborough in 2001 until 2005, when she joined the Cavendish Centre. She has been interested in complementary therapies for several years and also trained in acupuncture, although she does not practise this at the Centre. She has wanted to be involved with the Centre for many years.
Vanessa D'arcy - Aromatherapy, Hypnotherapy, Massage and Reiki
Vanessa has worked with us here at the Centre for over eight years.
John Donmall-Hicks - Clinical Hypnosis, Relaxation and Imagery
John came to the Centre over five years ago, thinking he could be useful! Sometimes he thinks he is, and says it is a great place to be where he enjoys working with a super team of people.
Elizabeth Duffield - Massage, Reflexology and Aromatherapy (Northern General Hospital)
Elizabeth has worked at the Centre for almost two years and is from a nursing background, until she switched careers when she qualified as a Complementary Therapist. She believes that massage and reflexology can be of benefit to everyone, having seen in particular how they can provide support and comfort.
John Hillman - Counselling
John has worked at The Cavendish Centre since 1995, having retired after 21 years as a headteacher in a special school. He is qualified as a Body Psychotherapist and is a member of the European Association of Body Psychotherapy. John is a practitioner of mindfulness-based therapy (the Hakomi Method), working with focus on how the past affects the present moment. He also helps to organise training in the UK in this method. Mick Whincup - Hypnotherapy and Rieki
Mick qualified as a nurse in 1996 and became a Specialist Nurse with the Acute Pain Team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals in 2003. It was while working in the Acute Pain Team that he became interested in hypnosis as an effective therapy for managing pain, so trained as a hypnotherapist. For years Mick noticed that people fell asleep while he was talking to them, so found that becoming a hypnotherapist was a natural career progression. He joined us in 2008 and uses hypnosis to effectively manage a wide range of problems and from 2010 has also added Reiki to his portfolio. He divides his time between working here at the centre and in private practise, Mick is a bit of an expert in pain and suffering as he has supported Barnsley Football Club since 1977.
Lou Jackson - Reflexology and Healing (Northern General Hospital)
Lou has worked on behalf of the Centre at the Northern General Palliative Care Unit for almost two years, after being involved here for many years. She has worked as a reflexologist for three years and practised healing for many years. She also works for the NHS in Barnsley and runs a successful private practice in Stocksbridge, Sheffield.
Louise Jackson - Reiki and Reflexology (Ashgate Hospice)
Louise came to the Centre two years ago, after working in education and bereavement support.
She decided to train as a therapist having experienced the power of complementary therapies and also has a practice at her home.
Jane King - Aromatherapy, Massage, Reflexology and Reiki
Jane joined the Centre two years ago, after moving from Kent. She previously worked as a complementary therapist for Macmillan, after 25 stressful years working in the pub and hotel business.
Jane is married and lives in Doncaster, where she enjoys spending time on their allotment growing fruit and vegetables.
Sharon Levett - Healing and Physiotherapy
Sharon, who started working at the Centre in 1997, has 25 years physiotherapy experience and is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. She has also been a spiritual healer for 12 years, which she combines in our weekly relaxation classes with visualisation and relaxation techniques.
Sharon specialises in the rehabilitation of cancer patients following radiotherapy or surgery, eg mastectomy, where scar tissue or pain and joint restriction may be an issue. She also works as a private physiotherapist and healer outside the Centre. Visit Sharons personal website here
Diane Morgan - Counselling
Diane also works as an assessor at the Centre. She is an ex-teacher with a post-graduate diploma in Pastoral Counselling. Diane spends much of her time visiting family in California, USA and Sydney, Australia. She has a wide range of interests and friends, which helps to support her work at the Centre.
Pauline Nunn - Reflexology, Reiki, Massage and Yoga
Pauline has worked at Ashgate Hospice, Chesterfield for four years on behalf of the Cavendish Centre. Pauline also runs the Gentle Yoga classes that started in June 2010 from the Cavendish Centre in Sheffield. These classes designed specifically for people with a diagnosis of cancer run each Monday. John Portman - Reflexology and Massage
John is a Member of the Association of Reflexologists and also a Member of the ART Register of Advanced Reflexologists. He has worked at The Cavendish Centre since 1996, carrying out therapeutic massage and reflexology as well as being involved with palliative care at the Northern General Hospital, Weston Park Hospital and the Ashgate Centre in Chesterfield.
Penny Wragg - Counselling
Penny qualified as a counsellor in 2003, after ten years in Christian pastoral work. She started working at the Centre in 2005. She has also worked in the voluntary sector and at Sheffield PCT. She is accredited with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and with CRUSE Bereavement Care. Penny also facilitates the bereavement group at the Centre.
